Android 14 is set to introduce native support for satellite communications. The operating system is scheduled for release in 2023.
Initially, this feature will be available on upcoming Google and Samsung phone models, but it will require specific hardware for proper functionality. Once the hardware is installed, users will have the capability to send short text messages even in areas without mobile network coverage. However, it’s important to note that making calls using this satellite communication technology will not be possible.
It’s worth mentioning that a similar function already exists on smartphones such as the iPhone 14 and Huawei Mate 50.
